Frequently Asked Questions
What if I’m in crisis?
If you are experiencing a medical or mental health emergency call 9-1-1 or go to your nearest emergency room. If you are experiencing a mental health crisis call the 24/7 crisis line at 988. If you are having a psychedelic experience and need emotional support please contact the fireside peer support line: 623-473-7433.
How do I know if you’re a good fit for me?
Everyone comes with their own individualized needs, bias, trauma and cultural context which I DEEPLY respect. I would get curious about what brought you to my website. Did anything resonate with you? I provide a free 15 minute consultation to see if we would like to mutually agree to work together.
While I have a lot of experience in the mental health field treating complex cases, I may have to refer out for specialized treatment or a higher level of care.
Please note, we are not in a professional relationship until all documentation/consents are signed and there is payment on file.

Do you accept insurance?
I am considered out-of-network with insurance companies.
You may be able to receive coverage with insurance if you have a PPO plan. You may call your insurance company (phone number is usually located on the back of your insurance card under “behavioral health”) or locate your insurance benefits on your insurance carrier website.
Here are some helpful tips on what to ask when working with your insurance:
Does my plan include out-of-network benefits for mental health care? Specifically, for outpatient psychotherapy?
Do I have a deductible for out-of-network mental health services? If yes, what is the remaining amount I will have to pay before my health plan starts to reimburse me for fees that I pay out-of-pocket?
What is the maximum amount my plan will reimburse for mental health service code 90837 with a Psychotherapist?
If the rep does not provide a clear answer, ask: “What is the maximum allowed amount for mental health service code 90837 with a psychotherapist, and what percentage of the maximum allowed amount will my plan pay?” (This percentage of the maximum allowed amount is the amount you would receive as reimbursement.)
You are responsible for all payments to Molly Zive, LCSW at the date of service. I will provide a document called a “superbill” upon request for reimbursement.
Please note: Some people prefer not to use insurance, after they become aware that billing insurance companies requires the diagnosis of a mental illness. We can discuss that together so you can make the best decision for yourself.
How long will I be in therapy?
Each individual comes with their own trauma history and symptoms. I inform clients that sometimes therapy can feel worse before it gets better because you’re uncovering painful experiences that you may have been avoiding, numbing or coping with for most of your life. I honor your bravery to be in therapy! The type of therapy model at my practice is focused on getting to the root of the pain. I work with individuals who are in the action phase of healing, who actively work in and outside of our sessions to contribute to their mental well-being. We will develop treatment goals in our first session to help keep the therapy focused on your highest healing. Therapy is an investment that impacts all areas and relationships in your life.
How do I schedule an appointment?
Please visit the get started page to schedule a 15 minute free consultation: Get Started
What can I expect for my first session?
All appointments are virtual. Please find privacy, get cozy and set an intention for your first session moments before logging on to meet with me. I will go over any questions you might have and review consent forms. We aim to set treatment goals, discuss what brought you to therapy and what you’d like to get out of therapy together.
Is therapy confidential?
Everything discussed in therapy is confidential however, there are limits to confidentiality if a client is a danger to themselves, others or if there’s any suspected child or elder abuse. Safety is my number one priority and I’m a mandated reporter therefore, in those instances, I will have to break confidentiality.
I can not share any of our treatment with any other individual unless I receive a release of information (written consent) from you. Due to the nature of our relationship and confidentiality, there are boundaries such as avoiding social media interactions, unable to approach you if we ever see each other in public and other instances we can discuss in our sessions together to protect your privacy.
What if I need to cancel our appointment?
Cancellations are a part of life! Therapy is a commitment to yourself. Please provide at least 24 hours notice via email or phone call to cancel your appointment. You will be charged a late fee if you no show/no call. This can be waived on a case by case/emergency basis. If you miss several appointments or cancel often, we will need to have a conversation about your commitment to therapy before scheduling future appointments.
What is psychedelic integration therapy?
Psychotherapy is a type of treatment that can help individuals experiencing a wide array of mental health conditions and emotional challenges. Psychotherapy can help not only alleviate symptoms, but also, certain types of psychotherapies can help identify the psychological root causes of one’s condition so a person can function better and have enhanced emotional well-being and healing.
In my experience psychedelics help get to the root of the issue quickly. Psychedelic integration therapy can help make meaning, solidify insights, address psychological content such as trauma, how to talk to loved ones, explore new perspectives and adjust back to “regular” life when engaging in psychedelic use. Working with a licensed professional is a safe place to explore any “bad trip” and help you make meaningful connections to help stabilize your psyche.
Do you provide psychedelic assisted therapy?
Currently, I am only offering ketamine assisted psychotherapy in retreat format. These are day retreats with a limited amount of participants who want to engage in a ceremonial psychedelic experience. Ketamine is currently the only legal psychedelic offered in California. I will not respond to any other psychedelic substance inquiries.
How do I know if you can provide clinical supervision for my licensure?
Please refer to the BBS for your specific license requirements. Per the BBS,
my current license (LCSW), I am an authorized mental health professional to supervise ASW, AMFT, and APCC under California law. My license is current and valid. It is the responsibility of the supervisee to manage their own paperwork requirements for the BBS. We can review this together during out meetings.
